I like all kinds of music, because every kind of music has a different story and a different heritage and I get different things out of ‘em all. Take punk – I liked that because it’s pretty straight-up. Anyone who’s makin’ punk rock has got something they want to say and they’re doin’ it in a way that’s hard to ignore. Or look at reggae and rocksteady – people are makin’ that because they want music they can dance to, music that means something to ‘em, and they aren’t gettin’ it anywhere else. Every kind of music has got meaning to someone, and I like findin’ out about all of it and puttin’ it into what I do.
The right kind of music reminds me of things, too. Anytime I hear reggae or ska, I got to think about Paul and the things we got up to. He’d make new mixtapes every time we went on tour, draw covers for ‘em and make us listen to ‘em all the time on the bus. Music that’s new, with electronic instruments and computers and wires, that always reminds me of Mick and the mad things he tries to do with his songs. Jazz reminds me of Tops, and I reckon he’s as good a drummer as anyone I ever heard on any of those records. Old rock music, South American music, folk music from everywhere – it all reminds me of someone, or someplace, or a good time I’ve had.
And that’s what music is about, really. It’s a piece of a story, or a message, or maybe a piece of a life. It means something different to everyone, and that’s all right, ‘cause part of it is listenin’ to other people’s stories, but part of it is tellin’ your own, as well.

Tom Savini should be a household fucking name.
…Well, I guess it depends on your household. Admittedly, mine is a bit different than most.
